KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia recorded 1,070 new Covid-19 cases today with Selangor registering the highest number of new infections with 327.
This brings the cumulative cases to 352,909 since the pandemic struck the country, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
He said 1,061 cases were local transmissions involving 904 Malaysians and 157 foreigners.
The nine imported cases comprised four Malaysians and five foreigners.
Out of 327 cases in Selangor, 248 are from clusters and close contact screenings that are being actively conducted on the ground.
Up to 14 cases are linked to the Immigration Detention Depot (DTI) and prisons cluster which are the Jalan Duta DTI Cluster (five), Jalan Harapan Prison Cluster (five), Tembok Sungai Udang Cluster (two), Tembok Pengkalan Chepa Cluster (one), dan Sepang 2 DTI Cluster (one).
The state with the second highest number of new cases was Sarawak with 225 cases followed by Penang with 133.
There are two cases in Perlis, 34 in Kedah, eight in Perak, 88 in Kuala Lumpur, eight in Putrajaya, 25 in Melaka, 55 in Johor, 31 in Kelantan, three in Terengganu, 37 in Pahang, 12 in Negri Sembilan, 17 in Labuan and 65 in Sabah.
Dr Noor Hisham said there were seven deaths today with four in Selangor, two in Sabah and one in Johor, bringing the toll to 1,295.
The deceased, six men and one woman, were Malaysians aged between 64 and 86.
They had a medical history of high blood pressure, diabetes, heart and chronic kidney diseases, cancer, dyslipidaemia and cancer.
There are 180 patients currently being treated at the Intensive Care Unite with 89 requiring breathing assistance.
There were 1,294 recoveries and 14,278 active cases.
