Covid-19: Kelantan burger seller fined RM50,000 for operating beyond hours

KOTA BARU: A burger seller was compounded RM50,000 by the police for flouting the Movement Control Order (MCO) Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) by operating beyond the 10pm limit.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Shafien Mamat said the compound was issued to the trader at his stall in Jalan Panji last night.

"A police team from the Kota Baru headquarters went to his stall which was set up in front of his house around 11.30pm and issued him the compound.

"The man is not the first individual from Kelantan who was slapped with the maximum amount of compound for flouting the SOP during MCO.

"And this was not his first offence. Before this, he was issued with another compound for committing a similar offence," he said.

Shafien said the trader, however, can seek a discount from the Health Department.

It is learnt that police carried out the raid after receiving a public tip-off on the burger seller who said to be operating past the allowed time during the MCO.

He also set up tables, allowing customers to eat their purchased burger and other food items at the location.

News on the trader being slapped with the RM50,000 compound went viral when the man uploaded it on his Facebook recently.
