Umno urges MACC to probe outgoing IGP's claims on politicians

KUALA LUMPUR: Top Umno Youth leaders are expected to file Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) reports over elements of corruption involving politicians switching camps.

This follows the call made by outgoing Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador during his final press conference yesterday urging MACC to investigate such despicable act that has marred the country's political landscape.

Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki urged the MACC to investigate such allegations and take the necessary actions immediately.

The allegations by Hamid, said Asyraf, should be viewed seriously since it confirmed the general perception on the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government over activities of buying over Members of Parliament from the opposing fold in order to remain in power.

"Such corrupt practices in order to get politicians to switch camps have existed during the (previous) Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration through the act of threatening with court cases and allegations of evading tax payment as well as offering rewards in order for them to join Parti Pribumi Malaysia Bersatu (Bersatu).

"Such practices were continued to be adopted during the PN administration when many of them (MPs) were 'cleansed' from any investigation and prosecution.

"The MACC must take action immediately without fear and favour before it is too late and save the country from the negative perception among the people as well as the international community over corruption, which has destroyed Malaysia's political landscape," he said in a statement today.

Hamid, when urging the MACC to investigate the matter, claimed that the country's political landscape has been devastated by corruption.

"I want MACC to investigate all the 'frogs' (politician who switched camps).

"People (politicians) drunk on power. They are willing to buy over and threaten others.

"That is corruption," Hamid, who is the country's 12th IGP claimed.
