KUALA LUMPUR: Police have revealed that an average of 40,000 inter-state travel applications are submitted to the police each day during the weekends.
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said inter-state travel was only permitted for work and emergency cases like death of family members.
"As for other cases, the police have been authorised to issue permits based on their discretion. Sometimes, the (questionable) authenticity (of the travel reason) prompted the police to reject the application," he said at a Press conference today.
Ismail Sabri reminded the public to abide by the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) set by the authorities including the travel ban due to the high number of reported Covid-19 cases.
He was commenting on public grouses on celebrities who were said to have violated the inter-state travel ban under the Movement Control Order and abused police permission to participate in social activities.
