Man severely hurt after firecracker explodes in his hand

GUA MUSANG: A 23-year-old man suffered serious injuries to his right hand after a homemade firecracker exploded in his hand yesterday.

The victim was playing with the firecrackers when the incident happened at Kampung Batu Papan here.

Gua Musang district police chief Superintendent Sik Choon Foo said the victim also suffered injuries to his face and ruptured an eardrum in the 11am incident.

"The victim failed to release the firecracker from his hand in time after lighting it.

"This resulted in it exploding, causing serious injuries on his right wrist and hand.

"He was rushed to the Gua Musang Hospital by his family members.

"Due to the severity of his injuries, the man was later transferred to the Sultan Ismail Petra Hospital in Kuala Krai for further treatment," he added.

He said the victim was reported to be in a stable condition.

It is believed that the case was the first to be recorded in the state during the festive season this year.
