Woman motorcyclist in induced coma following accident involving fallen log

GUA MUSANG: A woman who was nearly killed after being struck by a fallen log at a traffic light near the Bendahara junction yesterday, has been put into an induced coma in preparation for surgery.

Siti Norelyana Kamarulzaman, 21, is currently hospitalised at Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital (HRPZ) and under close monitoring after suffering spinal and rib fractures.

Additionally, the victim also sustained severe injuries to her liver, spleen, gallbladder, and intestines.

The victim's brother, Mohamad Azwa, 28, said his sister was put into an induced coma yesterday evening while receiving treatment at Gua Musang Hospital.

He said she was transferred to HRPZ yesterday evening for further treatment and close doctor supervision.

"The doctors informed us that surgery will be performed for the spinal cord, back, rib, liver, spleen, lungs, and gallbladder which suffered severe injuries.

"Right now, doctors are treating the intestinal area and there might be complications as well. For now, my sister's spirit is very strong as she fights the pain.

"Although sedated, she has shown positive response in her legs and arms," he said when contacted.

Upon viewing the widely circulated video of the accident, he said he was stunned to realise that the victim was his sister.

"We hope for a miracle so that my sister will recover and our family appreciates everyone's prayers.

" My sister planned to marry her partner in December," he said.

Meanwhile, the victim's fiance, Nik Amnan Arif Nik Anuwar, 22, hopes that the public will stop making false claims regarding the incident and his fiancée's condition.

"On social media, various claims have been made against my fiancee, some saying she has passed away and the worst accusation is that Siti Norelyana is pregnant.

"All these claims are untrue and I hope those responsible will delete all their posts on social media.

"We hope for the prayers of the Malaysian people for my fiancée to recover as usual," he said at HRPZ.

Yesterday, it was reported that a woman was seriously injured after being struck by a log from an overturned truck at the Bendahara Intersection, Jalan Gua Musang-Kuala Krai here.

District police chief Superintendent Sik Choon Foo said that the truck's turntable broke while negotiating a bend, which is believed to have caused the log to fall and hit the female motorcyclist.
