KUALA LUMPUR: Ulu Lepar in Raub, Pahang and several housing areas in Bandar Darulaman and Lubuk Kawah, Jitra in Kedah will be placed under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) for two weeks beginning Monday (May 18).
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the Health Ministry's assesment deemed Raub's Ulu Lepar which is located within Mukim Gali to be high-risk after it detected eight Covid-19 positive cases in the locality.
"In Bandar Darulaman and Lubuk Kawah, Jitra in Kedah, medical personnel found 94 positive for Covid-19 out of 207 individuals screened last week.
"The Health Ministry reported a surge of cases with high infectivity rate recorded within a week in the area namely at Taman Mahsuri 2A, Taman Mahsuri 2B, Taman Mahsuri 2C, Pusat Perniagaan Bandar Barat, Kampung Paya Kerchut, Taman Tunku Anum, Kampung Lubuk Kawah, Taman Desa Tanjung and Taman Desa Darul Aman Mukim Naga," he said in a statement today.
Ismail Sabri said the EMCO will allow targeted testing to be conducted and also to control the outbreak within these localities.
"Both localities will be placed under a 14-day EMCO until May 31," he said.
He added that the implementation of EMCO at the affected localities is also to facilitate early detection of new cases by the Health Ministry, as well as to curb the possible spread of infection to other areas.
Ismail Sabri added that the EMCO for the Windmills Condominium, Genting View Resorts and Apartment Mawar, Genting Highlands in Bentong ended today, ahead of schedule.
"The EMCO at this locality was scheduled to end on May 23 but due to the low risk assessment recorded, the government decided to end it earlier.
"The Health Ministry had conducted 237 screenings and only seven tested positive," he said.
Ismail Sabri said the decision to end the EMCO earlier was made by the Health Ministry after consulting the Covid-19 technical team.
