Full-blown MCO? Only after discussions with relevant authorities, says Ismail Sabri

KUALA LUMPUR: Any possibility of a full-blown Movement Control Order (MCO) will only be decided after a discussion with the relevant authorities.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster)

Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said each decision to implement an MCO would be based on advice from the Health Ministry.

"We will discuss this matter in the special National Security Council meeting (on Covid-19). If the Health Ministry sees a need (for a total lockdown), then the matter will be presented (during the meeting)," he told a press conference after visiting the Tuanku Mizan Armed Forces Hospital here, today.

Earlier today, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba did not discount the possibility of proposing a more stringent MCO, especially in states which recorded a surge in Covid-19 cases, such as Selangor.

He said a stricter enforcement of the standard operating procedures (SOP) and the MCO would be considered if the current measures are not sufficient to curb the spread of the virus.

"The proposal to implement a full-scale MCO is something that we can consider (to propose to the National Security Council)," he said.
