MAEPS PKRC 2.0 ready to accomodate surge in patients

SERDANG: The Malaysia Agro Exposition Park (MAEPS) Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) Integrated 2.0 in Serdang is ready to open more facilities to accommodate a larger capacity of low-risk Covid-19 patients following a surge in cases in the country.

Its director Dr Shahabuddin Ibrahim said PKRC MAEPS 2.0 will also become a transit centre for category 4 patients to avoid congestion in hospitals.

"If there is a need, we plan to open several other halls including Hall E (usually reserved for category 3 patients) to accommodate a number of Covid-19 patients.

"Similarly, category 4 patients who needed respirators, we are ready to receive them temporarily as a transit point before being transfered to Sungai Buloh Hospital and Kuala Lumpur Hospital whenever there are vacancies," he said at a press conference here today.

Earlier Dr Shahabuddin inspected the latest Hall F which will be reserved for Covid-19 category 1 and 2 patients.

The hall can accommodate 580 patients at a time.

He added that PKRC MAEPS 2.0 now has 5,869 beds and was currently operating at 70 per cent capacity.
