IPOH: Perak Mufti Tan Sri Harussani Zakaria, who tested positive for Covid-19 last week, is now being treated at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) here.
This was confirmed by his son Datuk Ahmad Wafi when contacted today.
"Abah is now being treated at the ICU," he said.
However, he denied claims on social media that his mother, Puan Seri Ainon Abdul Ghani, had died.
While confirming that she also had contracted Covid-19, he said she is now recuperating at home.
Meanwhile, state deputy mufti Datuk Zamri Hashim confirmed that Harussani was still being treated at the HRPB.
"We were informed that Tan Sri is being treated at HRPB while his wife has been discharged.
"Let's all pray together for the recovery of the Perak Mufti," he said.
Harussani tested positive for Covid-19 on May 11 and has yet to regain consciousness.
Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Saarani Mohamad said Harussani had tested positive for Covid-19 before the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.
Harussani, 82, was appointed Perak Mufti in 1985 and also holds several positions at both state and federal level.
These include chairman of the Censorship of Islamic Publications committee, Al Quran Text Board deputy chairman and member of the National Fatwa Council.
