Glove factory ordered to shut after workers test positive for Covid-19

KUALA PILAH: A glove manufacturing factory in the Dioh Industrial Area has been ordered to shut for 14-days by the authorities after eight workers were confirmed to be Covid-19 positive.

Another 400 workers have been told to undergo quarantine to curb the spread of the virus.

Kuala Pilah district officer Mohd Faizal Abdul Manap said the decision was made after obtaining test results of the workers from screening conducted by the Health Ministry on Wednesday.

Mohd Faizal, who is also the district disaster management and safety committee chairman, said all the workers affected were from Bangladesh.

"The positive cases were identified two days ago. All of them are quarantined and there are also those who are still waiting for their RT-PCR test results.

"We will continue to monitor the situation to ensure they adhere to the Movement Control Order's Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and the instructions of the authorities," he told Berita Harian today.

He also reminded the people, especially in the district, to comply with the SOP to effectively break the virus' chain of transmission.

"I hope the public would refrain from leaving their homes unless it is really important. This is vital to deter the spread of Covid-19," he said.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob had recently said that premises, including factories listed under the Hotspots Identification for Dynamic Engagement (HIDE) and found to have Covid-19 infections among workers would be instructed to close.
