LRT accident victims urged to contact Prasarana for compensation disbursement

KUALA LUMPUR: Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) has called upon victims of the Kelana Jaya Line LRT crash to contact the company for compensation payment disbursement.

Its acting president and group executive officer Datin Norlia Noah said Prasarana had so far identified 130 out of 213 passengers who were involved in the accident.

"As of 8am today, 130 passengers had been identified including 12 foreigners from Indonesia, the Philippines, Bangladesh and the Middle East, we have contacted their respective embassies.

"Prasarana hopes the 83 victims who have yet to contact us to come forward, their details are important for us to coordinate the assistance as announced previously," she said in a statement today.

It was previously reported that special monetary assistance of RM1,000 will be provided to all 213 passengers. There will also be financial assistance to bear their medical costs, follow up treatment and others deemed appropriate with the injuries sustained.

She apologised to all Malaysians and the affected passengers over the untoward incident.

"I also apologise for any mistakes and shortcomings we made when dealing with this incident.

"We will continue to share the latest information on the development of those still being treated at the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL), status tracking of passengers as well as the restoration process of the Kelana Jaya line," she said.

Norlia said currently five victims were still receiving treatment at HKL – three at the normal ward and two in the intensive care unit.

A total of 67 passengers received treatment at HKL after the May 24 accident. As of now 62 had been discharged.

"The remaining five passengers are expected to be discharged within two to seven days.

"We are monitoring their situation and our main focus at the moment is to support and assist the involved passengers and their family members."

She also assured that Prasarana would give full cooperation to the Transport Ministry and police for the investigation.

On Monday night, two trains, one carrying passengers and the other on a test run, collided on the track in the tunnel located between the Kampung Baru and KLCC stations, injuring 213 passengers onboard.
