List of economic, essential service sectors allowed to operate during lockdown

KUALA LUMPUR: The government today announced the list of economic and essential service sectors allowed to operate throughout the lockdown that will be implemented in three stages starting Tuesday.

The list was announced during a joint press conference by Senior Minister (Senior Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah which was broadcast on television today.

The following are the list of services allowed to operate during the lockdown period:

- Food and beverage including for animals (pets);

- Health and medical care including dietary supplements; veterinary clinics and related services;

- Water;

- Energy;

- Security and safety, defence, emergency, welfare and humanitarian aid;

- Solid waste and sewage management as well as public sanitisation;

- Land, air and water transportation;

- Port operators and services, shipyards and airports including for cargo handling and storage or commodity stocking;

- Communications including media, telecommunication and internet, postage, courier as well as broadcasting for the dissemination of information and news;

- Banking, insurance, takaful and capital markets;

- E-commerce and information technology;

- Community credit operators including pawnshops and Ar-Rahnu;

- Production, distillation, storing, supply as well as distribution of fuel and lubricant;

- Hotels and lodgings restricted for quarantine, isolation, employment of essential service and not for tourism purposes;

- Construction, critical maintenance and upgrading works;

- Forestry (limited to enforcement) and wildlife; and,

- Logistics - limited to delivery of essential services.

The senior defence minister also announced only factories in 12 economic sectors are allowed to operate during the lockdown period with a 60 per cent workforce capacity.

Among the sectors allowed are aerospace (components and maintenance, repair and overhaul), food and beverage, packaging and printing materials only related to food and health materials, health and medical products, personal care items, personal protective equipment (PPE) including rubber gloves and fire safety equipment as well as components for medical devices.
