KUALA LUMPUR: Liang Liang and Xing Xing, Zoo Negara's most loved giant panda couple recently welcomed their third cub.
The Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) said the cub was delivered around 8.30pm yesterday in the zoo's giant panda conservatory.
"We can't determine the gender as the cub is still under the mother's guard."
"But zoo officials will continue to monitor both mother and cub over the next 24 hours," the department said in a statement today.
This is the "power couple's" third cub since arriving in Malaysia in 2014. They were a part of Beijing's mission to foster closer ties with Putrajaya.
The pandas' earlier cubs Nuan Nuan dan Yi Yi were born on Aug 18, 2015 and Jan 14, 2018 respectively and have since been returned to China.
