KUALA LUMPUR: Motorists whose driving licence expire between June 1 and July 31 can renew them within 60 days, starting Aug 1 to Sept 30.
The Transport Ministry in a statement said the flexibility is given to holders of Malaysian Driving Licenses (LMM), Motor Vehicle Licenses (LKM) and Vocational Licenses (Public Service Vehicle and Goods Driving Licence).
"The LKM holders, however, must ensure they have a valid motor vehicles insurance coverage starting from the original expiry date of their licenses, and must have with them their insurance e-cover notes to show to the enforcement personnel upon request."
The statement said the counters for vehicle ownership transfer are temporarily closed, but the public can still do it online via e-auto or MyEG.
"The Road Transport Department (JPJ) kiosks will be opened from 8.30am to 4pm, at JPJ premises.
"As for kiosks outside JPJ premises, the operating hours are between 6am and 8pm, according to standard operating procedures set by the National Security Council (NSC)."
Meanwhile, the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) and Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) in Sabah and Sarawak have given exemptions to renew licenses and permits involving operators' licence, commercial vehicle permits, tourist vehicles licence, and driving licences.
"All the licenses and permits are allowed to operate even after the expiry date. However, they must have valid insurance protection."
