Parishioner at Catholic church in Penang tests positive for Covid-19

GEORGE TOWN: A parishioner at a Roman Catholic church here who was supporting an online mass last Sunday has tested positive for Covid-19.

Parish priest of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Pulau Tikus, Reverend Father Jude Miranda, today said all Sunday live-streamed masses are being suspended till further notice.

It is learnt that only eight people were present in the church on Sunday to assist with the broadcasting of the mass.

"We have just been informed that an attendee who was supporting the live-streamed mass on Sunday, May 30 has tested positive for Covid-19.

"As a cautionary measure, our live-streamed masses will be suspended until further notice," Father Miranda said in a parish notice.

He said all safety and health protocols have been complied with and the parish will extend its fullest cooperation to the Ministry of Health and public health officials to assist in contact-tracing, if required.

"The church has undergone its weekly sanitisation and we will continue with all efforts to keep our premises safe.

"During this time, I ask that you please join me in praying for all those who have been affected by this pandemic, and for blessings upon all frontliners," added Father Miranda.
