KOTA BARU: The Agriculture and Food Industry Ministry (MAFI) has set up an operation room to handle issues faced by stakeholders in the agriculture and food industry brought about by the Movement Control Order 3.0 (MCO 3.0).
Its Deputy Minister II Datuk Che Abdullah Mat Nawi said the operation room has been in place since the first MCO was imposed nationwide last year.
"The government realises that many in the industry from farmers to suppliers have been affected by the pandemic.
"Many are facing difficulties such as dumping vegetables and other problems.
"With the setting up this operation room, problems can be resolved immediately by the relevant government's agencies and departments," he told reporters after visiting a local fisherman's market at Pulau Gajah here today.
On the visit, Che Abdullah said the market was among five set up in Kelantan.
He said the others are located in Pasir Puteh, Bachok and Tumpat.
"The reason for the government to set up this kind of market in the states is to help local fishermen so that they can sell their catches directly to customers without having to use the service of a middle man," he said.
Che Abdullah who is also Tumpat MP then said the public should not worry over the shortage of fish supply in the country as the government would ensure there would be enough supply during the lockdown period.
"About 185,000 metric tonnes of fish is provided nationwide during this lockdown period and consumers can get their supply at all the 89 fisherman's market in the country," he added.
