PM: RM5b rice cultivation projects to support rice farmers, their produce

SERDANG: The government is set to roll out several new projects for the rice cultivation industry in the near future.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said these projects involve an expenditure of RM5 billion, focusing on supporting rice farmers and their produce.

"We have several large projects that we will introduce, including a major rice cultivation project. The first phase will start in the near future.

"They will cost RM5 billion, focusing solely on supporting rice farmers and their produce," he said at the Malaysian Agriculture, Horticulture and Agro Tourism Exhibition 2024 at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang here today.

Present were Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, his deputy, Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup, Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, and Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad.

Anwar urged everyone, including the chief secretary to the government, ministers and secretaries-general to focus on national development.

He said those in power should not just amass wealth and enjoy luxury, but should also work diligently to advance the country.

He said if they are determined, they can make Malaysia a great nation in the region.

"Then during your time of prosperity, or when you retire or face setbacks, you shouldn't complain endlessly and blame everyone else while thinking you're always right.

"There are challenges, if you have the power. If you want to criticise, do so.

"But one thing I emphasise is that we need to focus — whether it's from the prime minister, chief secretary to the government, ministers and secretaries-general.

"We must concentrate on developing this country, rising with new strength in all fields," he said.
