Man who quit job to sell RM1 bun now providing employment during MCO

KOTA KINABALU: A man who left his job as supervising engineer to sell buns from his car boot last year is now providing jobs to those who lost their income due to the pandemic.

Ridzuan Jamal, 28, said he now earned enough to open his own shop after selling the buns at mere RM1 each for less than six months.

The newly-married entrepreneur was featured in the New Straits Times last year. He reportedly sold about 1,000 buns daily in Penampang and Putatan.

Despite the affordable pricing of the bun, he said he actually earned more than his previous job.

"Now, my bakery has nine workers who recently lost their jobs, and also newly-graduated youngsters.

"There are also three secondary school students working as part timers to help their parents whose incomes are affected by the pandemic, apart from getting work experience," he said, adding that his workers' basic salary ranged between RM900 and RM1,200.

Ridzuan, who is only focusing on expanding his business, said he expected to recruit more workers both for the bun production and agents to sell the products.

He is targeting 15 agents but now only has eight to cover Sepanggar, Inanam, KK, Putatan, Papar, Kinarut, Kimanis and Telipok.

"I am concentrating on having as many agents as possible to even cover more districts from Tuaran to Menumbok.

"Therefore, I need more people to increase the supply to help others to survive through employment and sales especially during the movement control order now," he said.
