Walk-in vaccinations for over 60 at 700 private health facilities in KL, Selangor [NSTTV]

PUTRAJAYA: Walk-in vaccinations at more than 700 private clinics and private hospitals in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur would soon be allowed for the elderly aged 60 and above.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said this pilot initiative, to begin at a date announced in the near future, would then be expanded to other states.

"We have decided that 2,229 general practitioners in Selangor and 1,254 in Kuala Lumpur can participate in the vaccination programme.

"The reason why we decided on this was because there are still a number of individuals over the age of 60 who have not been vaccinated.

"At the moment, over 700 general practitioners are involved in the initiative," he said in a press conference today.

He said 2,478,289 individuals over the age of 60 had received at least their first dose, while 2,988,678 registered for the vaccine.

Private clinics and hospitals in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur could potentially administer 300,000 doses per day, he said, with at least 2,000 general practitioners in Selangor and 1,000 in Kuala Lumpur participating in the initiative.

Meanwhile, Dr Adham also said industrial vaccination centres could start operating 24 hours a day in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Seremban.

"This initiative is to ensure that the vaccination programme in the greater Klang Valley area can wrap up soon."
