Less than 2 per cent of fully vaccinated healthcare workers infected with Covid-19

PUTRAJAYA: Only 1.59 per cent of fully vaccinated healthcare workers from the Health Ministry have been infected with the Covid-19 virus.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said to date, a total of 245,995 healthcare workers have been inoculated under the Covid-19 National Immunisation Programme, and it has been over two weeks since they received their second jab.

Of this, he said, only 3,916 healthcare workers have been infected with Covid-19.

He said the majority of the healthcare workers who were infected after getting their second dose were in Category 1 (asymptomatic) and Category 2 (mild symptoms).

"A total of 1,272 of them (32.5 per cent) are under Category 1; 2,636 or 67.3 per cent under Category 2; five (0.1 per cent) under Category 3 (pneumonia); three (0.1 per cent) Category 4 (need oxygen) and one in Category 5.

"This shows that we can still be infected even after receiving our vaccination, but with low infection rate and severity.

"The infection rate for medical frontliners stands at 1.59 per cent. In most cases, nearly 99.8 per cent of them are only early stage infections," he said at a press conference here today.
