KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia witnessed its highest ever Covid-19 fatalities in a single day, with 219 deaths reported today.
This is the second time the country's Covid-19 death toll breached the 200-mark after 207 individuals succumbed to the coronavirus on July 26 this year.
Selangor accounted for the highest number of deaths (105), Kuala Lumpur (41), Johor (24), Malacca (nine), Pahang (eight), Negri Sembilan (seven) Kedah (six), Perak (six), Kelantan (four), Terengganu (four), Sabah (three), Labuan (one), Perlis (one).
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the country's overall death toll from the Covid-19 currently stood at 9,403 deaths.
"Of the total deaths, 201 were Malaysians.
"Twenty-one victims were also brought in-dead (BID) cases," he said in a statement today.
Meanwhile, the country continued with its five-digit daily Covid-19 cases trend, as 15,764 new infections were recorded as of noon.
Dr Noor Hisham said the country's total cumulative coronavirus infection currently stands at 1,146,186.
Selangor remained as the state with highest new cases, 6,067 fresh infections recorded over the past 24-hours.
Other states with four-digit cases are Kuala Lumpur (1,536), Johor (1,222), Sabah (1,166) and Kedah (1,108).
Negri Sembilan reported 862 new cases, Perak (748), Penang (667), Kelantan (552), Pahang (475), Melaka (463), Sarawak (441), Terengganu (425), Putrajaya (46), Perlis (nine) and Labuan (seven).
He said a total of 3,525 (22.4 per cent) from today's new infections had previously received at least received one vaccination dose.
Dr Noor Hisham also said that 1,063 individuals are currently receiving treatment at Intensive Care Units (ICU) nationwide, including 532 patients who have been intubated.
Meanwhile, 11,767 individuals have recovered from the Covid-19 infection today, raising the overall total tally of recoveries to 937,732 patients.
