RTD will continue donating food baskets to drivers of commercial vehicles

KOTA BARU: The Road Transport Department (RTD) will continue carrying out its programme to help commercial vehicle drivers who were badly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

RTD director-general Datuk Zailani Hashim said the "JPJ Prihatin" programme, in collaboration with the Malaysian Muslim Consumers Association (PPIM), has been helping to ease the burden of these drivers.

"The department was really concerned about the welfare of commercial vehicles drivers such as bus, lorry and rental car drivers. They have been affected due to the pandemic.

"Therefore, with the assistance of PPIM, we decided to provide them assistance in the form of food baskets. We hope the aid will ease their burden a little bit," he told reporters after presenting the food aid to bus drivers at Lembah Sireh, here.

Zailani said a total of 150 food baskets were donated to the drivers in Kelantan through the state Commercial Vehicle Operators Association today.

Also present was Kelantan RTD director Hanif Yusabra Yusuf.

Zailani also said the department sympathised with many segments in the transportation sector as they had lost their source of income following the inter-district and interstate travel restrictions imposed under the Movement Control Order (MCO).

On a separate matter, Zailani said all motorists were given until Sept 30 to renew their driving licences or face action if they failed to do so within the stipulated period.

"Starting Oct 1, those who failed to renew their licence will face stern action from the department," he added.
