Penang assembly sitting to proceed Monday; Excos, assemblymen negative Covid-19

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang state assembly sitting will proceed as scheduled tomorrow (Monday).

State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Law Choo Kiang said all state executive council members and assemblymen who had gone for testing for Covid-19 to date were tested negative.

He said the results were based on testing done using the reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) by hospitals assigned to carry out the tests for all elected representatives.

"For now, all the RT-PCR results we received came back negative.

"For Monday's sitting, not only are the excos and assemblymen tested negative, but also Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Dr Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak too," he said yesterday.

According to Law, the RT-PCR tests are carried out through hospitals and labs, whereby it take at least one day for the results.

Law, however, said several assemblymen have yet to go for the testing, mandatory condition to attend the state legislative assembly sitting.

"I want to stress that anyone, including assemblymen, who fail to produce their RT-PCR results will not be able to attend the state legislative assembly sitting.

"Tests carried out outside of Penang will be accepted as long as they come back negative," he added.

Meanwhile, Law said none of the elected representatives had asked for leave from the coming state legislative assembly sitting.

"All of them have also been fully vaccinated," he added.
