UK, int'l students taking mobility, edu-tourism programmes allowed to return

KUALA LUMPUR: International students from United Kingdom, those undertaking mobility and edu-tourism programmes as well as their dependents will be allowed to return to Malaysia.

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad said only three categories allowed to return to their respective campuses.

"Students from the United Kingdom whose admission's was previously blocked.

"International students who are pursuing mobility and edu-tourism programmes.

"Legal dependents of international students wishing to bring their family together in the country," she said in a press conference aired live at the ministry's Facebook account.

For international students who have completed the vaccination, Noraini said they must be registered with Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) before receiving approval to enter Malaysia from the Immigration Department.

"The students must undergo polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test three days before entering Malaysia.

"Once in Malaysia, the students must undergo a health screening test and be placed under quarantine at the designated location," she said.

Noraini earlier announced that fully vaccinated students will be allowed to return to their respective higher learning institutions in stages starting Oct 15.

She said respective higher education institution must also coordinate the movement schedule and health screenings for students and staff.
