Several five-star hotels in Langkawi fully booked

LANGKAWI: Several five-star hotels in Langkawi were fully booked on the second day of the travel bubble.

Malaysian Association of Hotel Kedah/Perlis chapter vice-chairman Razmi Rahmat said this was a good sign for the hotel sector towards recovery.

"Entering the second day of the travel bubble, bookings at majority of the five-star hotels on the island were between 60 and 80 per cent.

"Some of them, particularly those next to the beach were 100 per cent booked," he said when contacted today.

Meanwhile, he said the booking rate for four-star and below hotels was still slow at around 40 per cent.

"This is because currently the Kuala Kedah ferry services are still not operating due to the implementation of the Enhanced Movement Control Order.

"We are confident bookings will increase significantly on Monday once the Kuala Kedah – Langkawi ferry services resume," he said.

Razmi shared that the booking rates starting in the second week of October for four-star hotels and below was encouraging.

"Starting that week, several hotels in Kuah and Pantai Chenang were starting to receive bookings for rooms and halls for large-scale meetings and workshops.

"For the remaining two weeks of the month, the booking rate for four-star hotels and below vary."

"Visitors did not complain of the SOPs and they understand they must comply, including scanning QR codes on MySejahtera and using hand sanitisers.

"Hotels on the island also ready to set up an internal level Covid-19 SOP committee led by their security manager to handle any emergency related to Covid-19.

"There are hotels that still are vigilant and are tightening SOPs including preparing hand gloves for their guests to take food and only four people at one table for breakfast in their premises," he said.
