KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry has administered 5,410 Covid-19 vaccine booster shots to targeted groups yesterday with the bulk of the doses going to medical frontliners.
In a Tweet, minister Khairy Jamaluddin today said the elderly would start receiving their shots from private clinics near their homes soon.
He had previously said the booster shots would be given to the first batch of recipients who volunteer for it for free.
And it involved the elderly aged 60 and above and frontliners who had been completely vaccinated for at least six months.
The shots are given to those who had been fully vaccinated but their immunity levels were waning.
Those who qualify would be informed through MySejahtera meanwhile those without the application would receive an SMS or a phone call from a vaccination centre.
The administration of vaccines to the frontliners and the elderly would also be conducted by private clinics under the ProtectHealth Corporation Sdn Bhd's corporation.
Public health facilities would be administering the vaccines to their respective staff members.
Private healthcare workers can get their booster shots from their own facilities depending on their agreements with state health departments and the army hospitals would be distributing doses meant for frontliners within the armed forces.
