KOTA KINABALU: Sabah's number of Covid-19 daily cases continue to show a declining trend, Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said.
He said the state recorded 504 new infections, down by 135 cases compared to 639 infections yesterday - the lowest since July 22.
"Although the downward trend of daily cases is quite encouraging, we have not yet won the war against this pandemic.
"As predicted before, we are in a 'yo-yo' (fluctuating) trend, and our own attitudes will determine our future trends of daily Covid-19 cases," he said in a statement, adding that there were also no new clusters reported today.
Masidi reiterated that total adherence to the standard operating procedures (SOP) is the way to avoid being infected.
"Getting fully vaccinated not only boosts our body's immunity but also can reduce the risk of infection and ensure we are spared from the severe effects of the virus if infected.
"Vaccine can save us and our family members from dying due to Covid-19," he added.
On the overall case figures for today, he said 198 cases or 39.29 per cent were from symptomatic screening or cases that occurred sporadically.
"It's difficult to identify the origin of the Covid-19 cases detected through symptomatic screening or cases that occurred sporadically," he said.
He said close contact cases contributed at 50.79 per cent of the caseload.
Masidi also pointed out that only 291 cases or 57.7 per cent of the caseload occurred within the past 24 hours while the rest were backlogged cases.
"Of the total cases, 92.06 per cent were in Category 1 and 2, six cases in Category 3, three cases in Category 4, and two cases in Category 5. Another 29 cases are still under evaluation by the state Health Department," he said.
Sabah also registered seven fatalities – five in Sandakan and one each in Kota Kinabalu and Tawau.
The state will move to Phase Three of the National Recovery Plan tomorrow.
