KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia reported 5,745 new Covid-19 cases at noon today, 5,733 cases of which were local infections and the remainder being imported.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the newly detected cases brought the nation's Covid-19 tally to 2,401,866 since the pandemic struck the country last year.
"Of the new cases today, 115 are in Category 3,4 and 5 while 5,630 are in Category 1 and 2.
"There were 8,933 recoveries today while 682 confirmed Covid-19 cases and 73 suspected, probable and under investigation are being treated at the Intensive Care Units.
"There are 331 cases that require breathing assistance, where 280 are Covid-19 cases while 51 are suspected, probable and under investigation," he said in a statement today.
Eight new Covid-19 clusters were registered today, with seven work related infections and one from an education institution in Perak, Selangor, Johor, Pahang and Negri Sembilan.
The Laluan Persekutuan Sempalit cluster, involving a workplace in Raub, Pahang, recorded 32 infections.
The Jalan Springhill cluster, involving an education institution in Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan, detected 33 cases.
