Donations continue to pour in for Kota Baru fire victims

KOTA BARU: Donations continued to pour in for the 13 fire victims made homeless last week.

The latest donations comprised food packages worth RM3,000, and were presented by the Malaysia Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF), Lotus's and Mr DIY.

A simple ceremony to hand over the donations was held yesterday evening near the site of the fire.

MCPF committee member Kelvin Yeap said the donation was aimed to help the 13 fire victims who lost all their belongings in the incident which occurred on Nov 10.

"Our donation was not big but we hope it will help the fire victims especially those with small kids.

"The donation comprises various types of foods and daily essential items such as sugar, flour and biscuits," he said.

Recipient Wee Tiong Foi said he and his son lost all their valuables in the fire.

"Me and my 38-year-old son have been renting the house that was destroyed in the fire for more than 20 years.

"We are now looking for a new house and hope that we can find it soon," he added.

Nearly 30 people were made homeless when fire destroyed 10 wooden houses at Jalan Sultanah Zainab on Nov 10 with losses amounting to thousands of ringgit.
