Don't speculate on video of unvaccinated teacher placed in isolation, says deputy minister

IPOH: The Education Ministry is urging the people to refrain from speculating on a viral video of a secondary school teacher here who was placed in a storeroom for not being vaccinated against Covid-19.

Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon said the ministry was waiting for a full report following an investigation into the matter.

"For me, it is best not to speculate on this. We need to look into the full report first from the state Education Department.

"We need to look after the welfare of students and teachers at the same time. We want to know why he had yet to get vaccinated," he said.

Dr Mah said the ministry was also awaiting instructions from the Public Service Department on the type of action against teachers who refused to get vaccinated.

On Wednesday, the Perak Education Department had carried out an investigation into claims made by a secondary school teacher here that he had been placed in a storeroom as he had yet to receive his Covid-19 vaccine.

State Education, Higher Learning and Human Resources Committee chairman Ahmad Saidi Mohamad Daud said the department had notified the Education Ministry on the matter for further action.

A video of a school teacher from SMK St Michael went viral on social media in which he claimed he was placed in the storeroom instead of the teacher's office, as he had yet to receive the vaccine.

In a three-minute video, he claimed that the storeroom had neither chairs nor plug points, among others.
