KUALA LUMPUR: In a move to arrest the spiralling cost of daily essentials, the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) will implement the Keluarga Malaysia Maximum Price Control Scheme (SHMKM) between Dec 7 till 31.
Its minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said the scheme is part of the governments' effort to stabilise the price of essential goods while ensuring the availability of supply in the market.
He said the scheme will see price control being imposed on 12 daily essentials such as chickens, eggs and vegetables.
The items included in the SHMKM are:
- Live chicken; dressed chicken (slaughtered and cleaned with feet, head, heart and liver or any parts); whole dressed chicken (slaughtered and cleaned without its head, feet, heart and liver); and,
- Grade A eggs (weighing between 65.0 to 69.9g per egg); Grade B eggs (weighing between 60.0 to 64.9g per egg) and Grade C eggs (weighing between 55.0 to 59.9g per egg);
The vegetables included under the SHMKM price control scheme are long beans, red chilli, tomato, sawi Hijau, imported round cabbage (Indonesia and China, excluding Beijing) and cucumber.
Nanta is hopeful that the SHMKM execution will go smoothly and that it would help to stabilise the current price of perishables in the market.
"The price for the goods involved under this scheme will be announced soon.
"The maximum price of chickens and eggs will be announced at the farm, wholesale and retail levels.
"While the controlled price for vegetables will be determined at the wholesale and retail levels," he said in a statement, today.
He said the ministry will continue reviewing the items listed under the scheme, and some items will be added or dropped based on its ongoing assessments.
"All parties, throughout the supply chain, from manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors to sellers are advised and warned of stern actions if they failed to comply with the scheme, as well as for other consumers' necessities," he said.
