KOTA BARU: Flood situation in Kelantan continues to worsen today with the number of evacuees now at 1,084.
The victims, from 245 families, were seeking shelter at 17 relief centres in five districts.
According to the state Welfare Department flood portal, the figure was recorded at 11.26am today.
It stated that the 17 flood relief centres include SK Felda Chiku 7, SK Limau Kasturi 1, SMK Kuala Krai, SK Manek Urai Lama and SK Tok Deh.
The portal said Pasir Mas was the latest district affected by the floods today. The other four districts are Gua Musang, Kuala Krai, Jeli and Tanah Merah.
A total 539 flood relief centres have been set up to accommodate evacuees in Kelantan this year.
Apart from that, 159 flood front bases and more than 10 storage units have also been set up throughout the state to store food for flood victims.
It is learnt that the Kelantan Welfare Department has set aside some RM1.3 million for this year's monsoon season and the allocation from both Federal and state governments, was used to buy food and other necessities.
Meanwhile, police have been deployed to Sultan's Pier in Kota Baru to prevent crowds from going there to watch the rising river.
