KOTA BARU: The number of flood victims in Kelantan stood at 2,632 this evening, more than double compared to this afternoon.
The victims are now taking shelter at 32 flood relief centres throughout the state. Earlier at noon, the number was recorded at 1,219.
According to the state welfare department's flood portal, the 2,632 victims are from five districts in the state - Gua Musang, Jeli, Kuala Krai, Pasir Mas and Tanah Merah.
The heavy downpour also caused Sungai Kelantan and Sungai Golok to rise above their danger marks this evening.
As of 7pm, Sungai Kelantan in Gua Musang was recorded at 72.62m, followed by Kuala Krai at 26.32m and Tanah Merah at 16.35m.
Meanwhile, Sungai Golok was measured at 9.54m in Pasir Mas and at 24.53m in Tanah Merah.
The portal also stated that Sungai Lebir was measured above its warning mark as of 7pm in Kuala Koh (73.28m).
Two rivers were measured above their alert marks. They are Sungai Nal in Kuala Krai at 23.63m and Sungai Pergau in Jeli at 72.71m.
Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob in a statement tonight said the flood operation centres in all districts had been activated today.
