Sawit Kinabalu to venture into durian plantation and exportation

KOTA KINABALU: Sawit Kinabalu Sdn Bhd (Sawit) will be venturing into durian plantation, following a memorandum of understanding signed with Hernan Corporation Sdn Bhd for cooperations beyond plantation.

Both will also work on the marketing, exportation of durian and its processed products to domestic and international markets such as Australia, China, Japan, United States and others.

"Through this strategic collaboration, Hernan Corporation Sdn Bhd will also help Sawit Kinabalu in terms of information and expertise sharing, research, technology to ensure the project will produce fruitful returns," a statement said.

The signing was conducted between Sawit's managing director Datuk Bacho Jansie and Hernan's chief executive officer Anna Teo.

Earlier, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noorm who is also Sawit chairman, witnessed the third interim dividend payments of RM14,448,000 from Sawit to the state government.

Bacho presented the mock cheque to State Secretary Datuk Seri Safar Untong during the company board of directors' meeting.

This year, Sawit recorded RM333 million pre-tax profits which is the highest since it was formed 25 years ago.

Bacho added that to date, the company had paid a dividend of RM24.4 million to the state government for this year.
