Armed Forces to engage in rescue missions in Pahang, Kelantan, Selangor

SHAH ALAM: The Armed Forces will be deploying assistance to Pahang, Selangor, Kelantan following severe floods in the states.

Armed Forces Chief General Tan Sri Affendi Buang said Pahang had recorded 38,399 victims and the district of Mentakab had been cut off by the floods, making it difficult for assistance to be deployed into the area.

"We have identified areas of concern such as Pekan, Marang, Kuala Lipis, Raub, Kuantan, Temerloh, Jerantut, Bera, and Bentong.

"Food aid and supplies are currently being transported to the areas affected including Mentakab. Rescue efforts are focused in Selangor, Pahang and Kelantan as we anticipate more flooding incidents to take place.

"Perak, Kuala Lumpur, Negri Sembilan and Melaka have shown signs the situation is under control. However, we are always ready with the strength of one company involving five officers and 97 personnel on standby at each state to be deployed at flood-affected areas," he told a press conference held at the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) command centre at Taman Sri Muda here, today.

The floods, which started last weekend following continuous heavy downpours affected seven states.
