IPOH: The infamous self-proclaimed Raja Bomoh, Ibrahim Mat Zain has made a comeback.
A 25-minute and nine second video of him and a woman known as 'Puteri Zaleha' conducting a ritual to prevent floods in Teluk Intan has gone viral on social media since yesterday.
They used materials such as rice, turmeric, flowers and leaves and there was also what looked to be a copy of the Quran in front of them.
Ibrahim was clad in a black coat, a hat and red sash. The ceremony was believed to have been conducted at Dataran JPS Teluk Intan.
Meanwhile, Puteri Zaleha in the recording video claimed that she had predicted Teluk Intan would be flooded and it would be a disaster.
Following the video, Perak Islamic Religion Department (JAIPk) director Datuk Mohd Yusop Husin said that the department would open an investigation paper on the matter.
Mohd Yusop said that the investigation paper would be opened according to Section 14 of the Perak Syariah Criminal Enactment 1992 for denigrating and insulting the religion of Islam.
"We will open an investigation paper on this case. People are advised not to be influenced by such acts and to stay away from any practices that lead to superstition," he said when contacted.
Meanwhile, Perak had previously gazetted a fatwa on banning the rituals and practices, deemed blasphemous, by Ibrahim.
Perak deputy Mufti Datuk Zamri Hashim said that it was gazetted in accordance with Section 36 and Section 37 of the Administration of the Religion of Islam (Perak) Enactment 2004 in 2015.
Zamri said the State Fatwa Committee in a meeting held between Sept 17 and 19, 2014 decided that the acts committed by Ibrahim was against Islamic law.
"The fatwa gazetted mentions that any ritual and practice of blasphemy performed by Raja Bomoh, Ibrahim Mat Zin using certain objects or without using any object whether for medical purposes, blasphemy or otherwise is against Islamic law and haram," he said.
He said, following that, Muslims in the state who disobeyed the fatwa could be prosecuted under the law enforced in Perak.
He added that, Muslims in the state are also prohibited from publishing, uploading or downloading any publication in the form of pamphlets, social media, audio recordings or films related to the activities of the individual.
"Muslims are prohibited from spreading, promoting ideology and teachings, attending any ceremony associated with the teachings or supporting any blasphemous activities either directly or indirectly.
"Any Muslim or group who is a member or follower of it can also be prosecuted under the enactment and should stay away from any superstitious rituals to preserve the faith and glory of Islam," he said.
