KUALA KRAI: About 100 students failed to attend the first day of the third term of the 2021/2022 school session after their train failed to stop at the Kuala Gris station here this morning.
The train was traveling from Wakaf Bharu, Tumpat to Dabong, Kuala Krai and was supposed to stop at the station around 6.40am.
When it failed to do so, the students of SMK Dabong were left without a ride to school and were forced to go home instead.
The train ride from the Kuala Gris station to Dabong usually takes around 20 minutes.
SMK Dabong principal Suhaimi Abdul Ghani, when contacted, confirmed the incident.
He said the school was informed by Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) that the incident was due to a technical problem.
"KTMB has informed us that they will investigate the incident thoroughly. They have also promised that the incident would not happen again," he said.
Taking the train to school is commonplace among students in more remote areas such as Kuala Gris and Gua Musang.
The students were among 254,678 schoolchildren in Kelantan who were scheduled to begin their first schooling session today after the state moved to Phase Four of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) from Jan 3.
