GUA MUSANG: The Kelantan Wildlife and National Parks Department today confirmed receiving another report on a tiger sighting at an Orang Asli settlement here.
Department director Mohamad Hafid Rohani said it received the report two days ago concerning a tiger sighting at the Pos Ber settlement.
Following the report, several rangers were dispatched to locate the tiger.
"I would like to confirm that we have received another report on a tiger sighting at an Orang Asli village in Pos Ber.
"For now, we cannot confirm whether the tiger is the same one that was spotted outside the gates of a school in Gua Musang recently.
"However, we strongly believe that it might be from another group," he told NST.
A picture of the tiger entering the Orang Asli village in Pos Ber went viral a few days ago on social media. The picture is believed to have originated from the Facebook account belonging to an Orang Asli man from one of the settlements here.
Orang Asli settlements in Gua Musang have been rocked recently by tiger sightings in areas near the villages.
Things came to a head when an Orang Asli man, Anek Along, 59, was mauled to death by a tiger in the Pos Bihai settlement on Jan 7.
His daughter found traces of blood at the back of their home and upon following the trail, found her father's injured body.
Rangers eventually managed to track down the animal and killed it.
The tiger's killing, however, has not quelled the spate of sightings. One tiger was later sighted outside the fence of a school in Pos Bihai.
A picture of the incident was widely shared on social media.
Wildlife rangers, with the help of several agencies including members of the General Operations Force, have since mounted an operation to track down the tigers.
No tigers have been captured so far in the operation.
