Sabah schools to close one week if there are at least 2 Covid-19 positive cases

KOTA KINABALU: Schools in Sabah will be closed for a week if there are at least two people in the premises who test positive for Covid-19.

Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the decision was made through the state Disaster Management Committee following the current situation.

The daily statistic today doubled from yesterday as it recorded 909 new cases with four new education related clusters- two in Kota Marudu, one in Sandakan and Ranau each.

However, 900 out of the total cases are categorised as stage 1 and 2.

Since schools reopened last month, Sabah reported more than 10 similar clusters in the education institutions.

"Schools have to be closed immediately for seven days if there are at least two people among students, teachers or staff confirmed positive with Covid-19 by Sabah Health department.

"(However), students sitting for main examinations are allowed to return to their hostels to continue their schooling session on Feb 7," he said in a statement.

At present, the hospital bed utilisation rate in Sabah is at 29.88 per cent.
