8 schools linked to GISB Holdings ordered to close

SHAH ALAM: The Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) has identified eight premises used by GISB Holdings (GISBH) and registered as private Islamic schools under the Islamic Schools Control Enactment 1988 (EPSAI 1988).

Mais chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof said the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) had also conducted inspections and investigations into all these private Islamic schools and found that they violated the provisions of EPSAI 1988.

"Consequently, Jais issued an order to close all the schools under Section 25 of EPSAI 1988 on Monday. The cancellation of the registration of Islamic schools that are still operational will also be implemented per EPSAI 1988.

These schools include Maahad Tahfiz Wal Ulum Al Ghazaly, Sepang; Sekolah Rendah Islam Miftahul Hikmah, Klang; Sekolah Menengah Islam Global Ikhwan (Banat), Rawang; Sekolah Menengah Islam Zadut Taqwa 2, Puchong; Sekolah Menengah Islam Zadut Taqwa 1, Shah Alam; Sekolah Rendah Islam Yaqutul Fuad, Rawang; Sekolah Rendah Islam Integrasi Bustanul Ikhwani, Rawang; and Sekolah Rendah Islam Integrasi Qurratul Ain, Sepang.

"Enforcement officers are also finalising investigation papers on individuals associated with GISBH and its network for offences related to Islam under the Syariah Criminal Enactment (Selangor) 1995 and the Islamic Religious Administration Enactment (Selangor) 2003. These papers will be submitted to the chief Syariah prosecutor," he said in a statement today.

Abdul Aziz added that Mais would also assist the Welfare Department (JKM) in the rehabilitation process of children rescued from charitable homes, who are now placed under the care of JKM.

He also said Mais had decided to take over the management of Masjid Cahaya Iman and close the Musolla Ikhwan at the GISBH Complex, both located in Bandar Country Homes, Rawang, pending the completion of investigations into criminal offences, including syariah offences, related to GISBH and its network.

"Mais and all Islamic affairs agencies in Selangor will continue to take strict and coordinated enforcement action to ensure that any movement promoting deviant teachings from the true Islam is fully eradicated in Selangor and that all parties involved are brought to justice," he said.

Yesterday, Mais held a special meeting to discuss the actions that have been taken and will be implemented by Mais and the state's Islamic affairs agencies in line with the decree of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
