KOTA BARU: The Non-Revenue Water (NRW) rate nationwide can be reduced by 35 per cent under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).
Environment and Water Minister Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said states such as Perlis and Pahang were among those with the highest rate of NRW.
"The ministry's focus right now is to ensure our target on the NRW rate reduction is achieved and we will help states to better manage their NRW issue," he told reporters after visiting the non-revenue water project in Pasir Tumboh here today.
He said the NRW rate in Kelantan currently stands at 52 per cent.
He said the ministry hoped the project would help solve the issue of NRW in Kelantan.
On the Pasir Tumboh's project, Tuan Ibrahim said it was part of the National NRW Approach Programme for Kelantan.
"The RM69.1 million has two phases and the Pasir Tumboh facility is part of the project.
"Construction began in February last year and is expected to be fully completed in January next year.
"The project is aimed at upgrading the old tanks and to repair leaking pipes. The project's progress is now at about 37 per cent."
Tuan Ibrahim added once the project is completed, it would increase the water storage capacity to 31.2 million litres and would benefit some 175,000 users.
