KUALA LUMPUR: The Health Ministry will call on Covid-19 self-test kit suppliers to evaluate their products following reports of contradicting results in some of the test kits sold in the market.
Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the Medical Device Authority (MDA) has been instructed to call all relevant suppliers to address the accuracy of the Covid-19 test kits in the country.
"I am aware of the public's grievances and complaints on the error of the results such as 'false negative' results when using self-test kits using saliva samples sold in the market.
"Therefore, I instruct the MDA to convey a recommendation to suppliers to request quality assurance information from the manufacturer or producers of screening kits," he said in a virtual press conference today.
Khairy emphasised that checks on the quality assurance process by suppliers from manufacturer must be made for each self-test kit made from time to time.
"By the time it is approved by the MDA, the accuracy may be 99 per cent but the rate may decline over a period of time," he told a press conference, here, today.
