KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has warned of continuous rain and thunderstorms in parts of the country, including Sabah and Sarawak from today.
It said continuous rain is expected in the West Coast of Sabah, Sandakan, Telupid, Kinabatangan, Beluran and Kudat from March 8 to March 9.
"In the afternoon (today), we expect thunderstorms in parts of Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Terengganu, Pahang, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor and in most interior parts of Perak. One or two interior locations in Kelantan can expect rain this afternoon," MetMalaysia said in a statement.
The department also forecast thunderstorms for Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Miri and Limbang in the afternoon and rain to take place in Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah, Kapit and Bintulu later today.
"In the evening, thunderstorms are expected in parts of Kedah and Penang in addition to rain at rural locations in Pahang, Terengganu, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Johor, Perak, Kelantan, Selangor and Negri Sembilan.
"On March 9, rain is expected in one or two places in Penang, Kelantan, Terengganu and Selangor in the morning and thunderstorms are likely to occur in several parts of Kedah, Penang, Pahang and Johor.
Meanwhile, in Perak, Perlis, Kelantan and Terengganu thunderstorms have been forecast in one or two rural areas tomorrow.
It also forecast thunderstorms in some areas of Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah, Kapit, Bintulu, Miri and Limbang in the afternoon and rain in Selangor and Johor as well as thunderstorms in Kedah, Penang, Perak, Kelantan and Pahang in the evening.
Rain is also expected in Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah, Kapit and Limbang at night.
On March 9 and 10, thunderstorms will take place in some areas of Perak and a few coastal areas in Kedah and Penang in the morning.
On March 10, it said rain is expected in some parts of Selangor, Melaka and coastal areas of Negri Sembilan and Johor in the morning, while Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya are expected to be cloudy.
"In the evening, thunderstorms are expected place in parts of Penang, Pahang, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor and in the interiors of Kedah, Perak and Kelantan.
"Thunderstorms are expected in one or two areas in Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sarikei, Sibu, Miri and Limbang and rain in some parts of Kapit in the afternoon".
Apart from that, MetMalaysia said thunderstorms are also expected in the interiors of Pahang as well as rain in one of the two interior areas of Johor.
At night, the department said it expects rain in some parts of Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu and Kapit.
