Tun Mahathir not defending Langkawi seat in GE15

LANGKAWI: Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today confirmed he would not be contesting or defending his Langkawi parliamentary seat in the next general election.

Citing his health condition as the main reason, the Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) chairman who is turning 97 this July said he was making way for a younger leader in the 15th General Election (GE15).

"I haven't fully recovered yet but the least I can do is to help (Pejuang) campaign in Johor (state election).

"I think it is about time to make way for a younger candidate. I can be there (to help the candidate), to offer some advice, campaign for the candidate," he told reporters after visiting the Lang Agro Park here today.

This was Dr Mahathir's first visit to his constituency in three months since he was admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) on several occasions.
