Sedar to contest Nenggiri seat if limited to BN and Bersatu

KOTA BARU: Sarawak-based Parti Sedar Rakyat (Sedar) will contest in the Nenggiri by-election if the state seat is contested only by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia and Barisan Nasional.

Sedar president Othman Abdillah said that the party would pull out if the state seat was contested by more than two candidates.

"Right now, we haven't decided whether we'll contest; it will depend on the candidate nominations tomorrow.

"We need to determine if only BN and Bersatu will be competing or if other candidates will also be running for the state seat.

"If BN and Bersatu are the sole contenders for the seat, we will go ahead with our plan to contest. However, if additional candidates join the race, we will withdraw. We will be present on nomination day to observe and evaluate the situation," he said when contacted.

He added that nearly 100 party workers had started mobilising in Gua Musang today to prepare for the campaign, should they contest for the seat.

"We already have a potential candidate; a 45-year-old businessman who resides in Gua Musang.

"If we proceed with the contest, Sedar's campaign strategy will involve going door-to-door to explain our policies, unlike the 'ceramah' as practised by Bersatu and BN.

"We will visit residents' homes to present the platform and policies of the Sedar, which is based in Sarawak," he said.

Yesterday, the State Election Commission director Fakhrul Razi Ab Wahab said the commission sold 10 nomination forms — five to BN, four to Perikatan Nasional and another one to Sedar.

Fakhrul said representatives of both BN and PN had paid their deposits for their candidates, namely Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani and Mohd Rizwadi Ismail, respectively.
