KUALA LUMPUR: The total number of new Covid-19 infections dropped slightly to 20,923 on Saturday, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
He said of the new cases, 0.55 per cent or 115 cases were in Categories 3, 4 and 5 while the remaining 20,808 cases were in Categories 1 and 2.
He said 48 of the cases in Categories 3, 4 and 5 were those who had completed two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, 34 cases have received their booster shots and 33 individuals who were either unvaccinated or partially vaccinated.
"A total 73 cases were aged 60 and above, 63 with comorbidities, and one was a pregnant mother," he said in a statement today.
Dr Noor Hisham said there were 25,467 more recoveries yesterday, pushing the total number of those who have recovered from the virus to 3,844,766.
He added that 302 Covid-19 cases were being treated at intensive care units (ICU) nationwide where 198 required ventilator support.
He said three new clusters were identified yesterday; two of which were education clusters named the Dua Sungai Raba cluster in Selangor and the Bandar Vendor cluster in Melaka. The third was a high-risk group cluster, named the Jalan SS Tiga cluster in Selangor.
Meanwhile, he said 979 Covid-19 cases were admitted to hospitals yesterday, comprising 410 in Categories 3, 4 and 5 and 569 in Categories 1 and 2.
As of Saturday, the ICU bed utilisation rate in five states was more than 50 per cent.
Kuala Lumpur is at 70 per cent, Putrajaya at 67 per cent, Johor (59 per cent), Penang (57 per cent) and Selangor (53 per cent).
He added that normal hospital bed usage in six states was more than 50 per cent, namely Putrajaya at 76 per cent, Selangor (70 per cent), Kuala Lumpur (59 per cent), Melaka (57 per cent), Terengganu (56 per cent) and Sarawak (51 per cent).
Meanwhile, data on CovidNow showed that 34 deaths were recorded yesterday, including eight brought-in-dead (BID) cases.
Covid-19 active cases is now at 242,487 with a majority of the patients - 97.2 per cent undergoing home quarantine, 2.2 per cent being treated at hospitals, 0.5 per cent at Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centres and 0.1 per cent in ICUs.
