KOTA BARU: Seven crime cases, including a rape case, were reported at different relief centres during the recent floods.
Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the other cases were four break-ins, as well as one case each of motorcycle and cable theft.
He said the rape case involved a 15-year-old victim, while the suspect is a 23-year-old construction worker.
"The incident happened about midnight on Dec 2 inside a store at one of the flood relief centres in the state.
"Initial investigation showed that the victim had just befriended the suspect while at the relief centre.
"The victim's brother learned about the incident and the duo admitted to have committed the act," he told reporters here yesterday.
Mohd Yusoff said the victim's family lodged a police report later.
"The suspect was arrested on Dec 6 and has been remanded for seven days to assist police investigation into the case," he said.
The suspect was charged under Section 376 of the Penal Code.
He said the suspect was charged at the Syariah court on Dec 12 and pleaded not guilty.
"No bail was offered to the suspect," he said.
