Sabah allocates RM10 million to help Tawau fire victims

TAWAU: The Sabah government has allocated RM10 million in aid for fire victims in Kampung Kurnia Jaya, Batu 4 Jalan Apas, here.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the special allocation was to rebuild houses as well as ease their burden.

He said the state government was concerned about the situation of fire victims who were facing difficulties during Ramadan and upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.

"It is our responsibility to ensure that every citizen will be able to be helped when they face hardships and disasters like the recent fire.

"I hope with the assistance of RM10 million, it can ease their burden to rebuild their houses in designated areas," he told residents of Kampung Kurnia Jaya, Batu 4 Jalan Apas, at the Tawau Community Hall.

Also present were State Secretary Datuk Seri Safar Untong, Sabah Assistant Finance Minister and Apas assemblyman Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan, Tawau Municipal Council (MPT) president Joseph Pang, and Semporna District Officer Juraimin Jadil.

At the ceremony, Hajiji also presented an allocation for the construction and repair of houses amounting to RM8.2 million to 435 families at Kampung Bangau-Bangau, Semporna.

Meanwhile, he also announced special payment of RM500 in conjunction with the Hari Raya Adilfitri and Keaamatan celebration to all state civil servants for those grade N54 and below. It will be paid before Hari Raya next month.
