Boy loses three fingers in firecracker incident in Bachok

BACHOK: A 14-year-old student lost three fingers when a firecracker exploded in his right hand here yesterday.

The Form Two student of SMK Long Yunus was playing with the 'ball' type firecracker when the incident happened about 4pm

District police chief Superintendent Mohamad Ismail Jamaluddin said the incident occurred at the back of the victim's home in Kampung Lembah Beris Kubur Besar here.

"The victim's family who heard his screams, immediately rushed to help him.

"They found the victim lying on the ground with injuries to his hand, neck and face.

"They immediately rushed him to the Beris Kubur Besar health clinic," he said in a statement.

Ismail said the boy, was then transferred to Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital (HUSM) in Kubang Kerian.

"He was reported in stable condition at HUSM," Ismail added.

He said the incident was the first such case reported in the district during the fasting month.
